The Profound Impact Technology Has on Film |

Technology is always changing. Over a decade ago, using a mobile phone for calls, music, video chats, and work would have been a crazy concept. However, as technology continues to grow, we are able to do more. One industry in which technology has spurned profound change is film. How has technology given us the film industry we know today? Just half a century ago, film cameras needed a full crew to operate. An aerial shot meant mounting a camera to an aircraft, a camera that weighed more than the plane itself, and it would be a difficult process. Editing had to be done through physically cutting film and pasting it together as necessary - which, as it sounds, was not efficient. Lighter cameras today mean clearer image, clearer sound, and video can be saved and shared easily. Technology in film has truly opened up a new world for the industry, from silent black and white film to a full 360-degree view of New York City. One incredible aspect of film today lays in 360 videos. A 360 video is a video that is recorded in all directions, and this allows you to see the video as a complete 360-degree view. As a viewer watches, they are able to control the viewing direction of the video and can see it from any perspective. There have been plenty of 360 videos uploaded to social media, such as YouTube and Facebook, and they can be viewed on both computers and smartphones. Recording 360 videos cannot be done with just any camera or smartphone. Shooting a 360 videos can only be accomplished by using a camera made for shooting 360 video. There are models available through major brands like Samsung or Kodak, and they can cost anywhere from a few hundred to well over a thousand dollars as they are a piece of high-end, specialized equipment used only in 360 video production. 360 videos are unique, interactive, and give a whole new meaning to exploration. Technology has changed our lives in a major way in recent years, from improved communication to more efficient business practices. Technology in film has allowed us to see things around the world that we may never see in our lives, and it has truly helped connect people from all over the world. VR and 360 video are aspects of film technology that keep changing and making the world a better - and closer - place.
