Is one or more of your teeth missing? There are a number of ways to replace the teeth. One of the alternatives to bridges or dentures can be implants. Implants replace missing roots to support artificial replacement teeth. They look like natural teeth and are very comfortable. What Actually Happens? A dental implant is made of titanium. It is an artificial root. The implant is inserted into the jawbone. It replaces the root naturally. It acts as an anchor and holds the replace tooth in place. More often, your dentist will refer you to the dental specialists who have training in this area. These specialists are known as periodontists or oral surgeon. If you have healthy gums and enough jawbone to hold an implant, then dental implants are for you. But, if you have under-developed bone or it has shrunk, then you can put a bone graft to your jaw bone. It is a way to add a new bone to your jawbone. Your dentist or specialist is a method to add a new bone to your jaw-bone. Your dentist or dental specialist will tell you if bone grafting can be done. Procedure Your dentist or specialist will carefully examine your mouth and take x-rays of your head, jaw, and teeth to find out if dental implants are right for you. Firstly, the dentists put a dental implant in the jawbone under the gum tissue. After stitching the gum tissue, the dentist will wait for the tissue to heal. During the healing, the implant will attach to the gum and bond with the bone. This can take many months to heal and bond to the bone. Secondly, after the tissue is healed, an abutment is then attached to the implant by the dentist. To connect the replacement to an implant, an abutment is used. Sometimes tissue healing and attaching an abutment is done in one single stage. Then in the final stage, an artificial replacement tooth is made and attached to the abutment. Sometimes it takes several appointments to properly fit the replacement tooth to the abutment. Contact our dentists for dental implants in Mississauga.
